HUMANITAS MAXIMUS ARTICLES

You should read the fine print which follows first...

*Note to my Readers About Viewing Posts: This blog is formatted in such a manner as to cut off certain of the larger graphics that appear in the postings -- especially when those postings have been excerpted from wider-screen or higher-resolution media. Please be patient with me while I work within Google's somewhat stifling Blogger framework. If some graphics are cut off, you might just left-click on them to see if you can get an original source screen with the full graphic shown -- regrettably, this only works some of the time. In the event that any of the wording is cut off, you might change your screen magnification down from 100% to 75%. But don't worry -- the copy very seldom gets cut off. In some cases, if the article has been re-posted from another source (and you sadly can almost never tell you might try clicking on the article title, to get redirected to the original source posting, which will generally be full-sized and easy to read. No matter what...Please don't run out to the local drugstore in the rain and buy some of those overpriced non-prescription "reading glasses" that will make you look like either 1) a Senator in a subcommittee proceeding, or like 2) a substitute teacher from the early 1060's.

And now, intrepid explorers...TO INFINITY! AND BEYOND!

Man Without A Party

Dear Friends:

Wendy Kovitz had the decency to bring this assault against my reputation to my attention. As a person of color, who is both physically and mentally challenged, my civil and constitutional rights (and lefts) are being violated. Are you being violated too? Hey...wait...where'd everybody go?.......

The Valuing, Respecting and Caring For the Individual Human Being - A Restoration of Basic Decency.

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Members and Human Beings Who Treasure Their Humanity:

The situation is evident. The fact that the situation has largely become embraced as "the inevitable status quo," and does not rattle our cages and make us kick and curse is plain pathetic. It fills the polluted air with the additional stench of burned dreams, accepted sorrows and hopelessness.

Decent citizens of the United States and  citizens of other industrialized nations who have followed our example (rather like running in front of the next bus after the first one has already crushed your best friend) have become too complacent wih having lowered their standards for Human Conduct, for Government and Corporate Integrity and Responsibility, and...worst of all...for their own value and impact as participants in the process of shaping the future by having a say in it. Most Human Beings perceive themselves as victims rapidly surrendering their fate to self-proclaimed, increasing insensitive and unresponsive "rulers".

Our society sadly accepts the wholesale mistreatment and disregard of the Individual Human Being, each unique, each with special gifts, and quirks, and dreams and hopes. We quietly lament. We listen to rhetoric. We hear reports of outrageous abuses of power. We forgo any and all of our freedoms in the interest of protection from terrorists -- ironically some of these "saviors" whom we have empowered to run our lives are terrorists in their own rights.

We quietly crave change, live with fading memories of "better times", and live a quality of life that grows worse. We don't have revellion - we are becoming as institutionalized as long-term prisoners. We are letting our lives, our rights, our choices and our futures be handedled by strangers who have no Human interest in us; no interest in or appreciation of our ability to contribute and to participate -- they want us to simply shut up and pay for their mistakes as they herd us around like cattle or sheep. They do as they please, and we exist to help them propagate themselves, their exclusivity and their own insular power. We don't work to better ourselves...we work to benefit them. And when we are no longer stron enough to do the heavy lifting that comnes with menial servitude, they throw us out without a second thought.

Ritualistically robbed of our self-esteem, dignity and our voices, we are a species in great danger. I am concerned for all of us - I believe that as a Human Being myself, it is incumbent to save myself and take as many people as I can recruit to save themselves as well. I am more than just an animal to be taxed, and prodded, and milked and then sacrificed. I am a Human Being. And I resent being turned into a servant and a robot. Do you? Well...do you?

An irresponsible socio-economic social sytem that ravages its constituents is eventually doomed. After a time, it is like an engorged parasite having so fully depleted its host, that it no longer has access to nourishment. If it hasn't a new host (i.e. if it has destroyed the society that hosted it), it too, will die. Nothing survives a relationship that is so one-sided that it kills the weaker party.

I am a champion of the GICBC (the Global Interworked Cooperative Business Community) as an alternative to the entire "us" and "them" system. Here are some of the reasons:

1. Stakeholders (i.e., shareholders, owners) not have to compete with employees, consumers and Society-At Large. Instead of competing, we should be collaborating. Simply put, employed persons give value, and receive wages. They use those wages to a) purchase the products and the services provided by the companies that these shareholders own, and to b) invest in some of those very companies. We are inextricably commected.

2. Shareholders are not villains. Dissatisfied employees (and the unions that frequently extort dues from them) are not villains. A small group of greedy people who have direct checkbook access to these companies are the ones who vote raises for themselves while their stock is plummeting (hurting all of the "lesser" owners of stock), while their employees are being fired en masse.

And the government (moving ever closer to Mount Olympus and further from those of us who are mere Earth-bound mortals) gives these greedy folks assets (for which the public will eventually pay), and [wink-wink] charges them with the responsibility of "lending out more money, creating jobs, improving efficiencies, policing themselves better, reducing prices," and other lofty tasks. Hello! These greedy folks simply keep the money for themselves - there is no actual incentive (moral suasion? B.S.!) for them to do anything more.

This is not altruism by any definition... it is short-term, self-serving unmitigated thievery. Our government gives these insiders a reward for their depraved indifference and inhumanity, and we wind up paying for that reward to our own detriment and eventual destruction. Sometimes don't you feel as if we were living in The Matrix movie?

The only incentive to permit this kind of governance and to comply with its directives is FEAR. We the people have, by abdicating our responsibility to be brave, proactive and vocal, have allow a government to metasticize. It does not serve us. We serve it. It a small group of insiders who are very, very averse to change -- they enjoy their elitist benefits.

And here you thought that slavery was illegal, that due process of law was every person's right, and that (quoting Gordon Gekko) "Greed is good."

Greed is not good -- especially when it involves legalized stealing. Ambition (unless motivated by a lust for power or control) is good because it stimulates innovation, thought, productivity, collaboration, contribution and self-betterment. In sum: better people in a better society.

3. Employees are consumers. No jobs = no wages = no consumption.

4. Shareholders are also consumers. No 401k = no wealth = no consumption = no further investment.

5. Banks were once lenders. No credit or loans to the private sector entrepreneurial enterprise = no spending = no business expansion = economic and emotional depression. Now banks simply take their "free" money and invest it in higher executive salaries and governmnet debt. This is a fiscal twist on waste recycling, but with a commission.

6. The ordinary citizen has no voice in government, or in his or her ultimate affairs. Voting has become a "lesser of two evils" scenario. In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding corporate campaign funding and sponsorship, perhaps it is now a "richer of two evils" scenario.

7. We don't have fireside chats and village meetings anymore... at least not real ones. Decisions are not made with open debate and a popular vote -- they are made behind closed doors and handed down to us like "words from on high." We are not interactive. Leadership has lost touch with its troops. In fact, leadership sends its troops out to die in the interest of gaining power or money.

-----------
-----------

Can you imagine a system where the following basic rules applied? :

1. The employees and contibutors all became stakeholders (with profit-sharing and ownership), and had a genuine right to vote, and to even call for a special vote;

2. The employees were rewarded financially and through recognition for entrepreneurship; creating intellectual property; developing technologies which fostered efficiency, sustainability and created a demand for greater new skills and new jobs;  generating greater revenues; for reducing expenses; improving the quality of life for employees in terms of health protection, career advancement and financial security;

3. Revenues came from a diversified group of sources, so that there would not be a dependency upon any one in particular;

4. Employees had a credit union which helped them to become or remain homeowners and consumers, as well as savers and investors;

5. Employees were, in large part, consumers of the organization's products and services, in an enhancement of sustainability and re-investment of profits ;

6. Where collaboration and teamwork were encouraged, and where each individual was accountable, but cared for with dignity.

Yes. I'm talking about a change. I'm speaking of a new form of entity which restores some of the fundamental ideas and principles which have made virtually every great social and technological advancement possible. I'm speaking of the GICBC... The Global Interworked Cooperative Business Community. You can, and should Google that.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

The Only Way: A New System

Dear Friends:

We Humans fight about everything. We do battle. We believe that for every winner, there must also be a loser. We believe that "no good deed goes unpunished." We believe that it is our very nature to be self-destructive and to engage in counter-productive behaviors.

We are approaching a point in our sociological and societal evolution where some very calamitous things will indeed happen unless we seize this very moment to create a new type of sustainable, growth-oriented survival strategy.

We cannot afford to think of "them" and "me." We are already on board this ship together, and it is "US".

For the new system to work, it must incorporate the following line of code:

"I can help myself only by helping others. Others can help themselves only by helping me. "

It seems obvious. What are we doing to reprogram ourselves?

Google the term "GICBC".

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Take This Survey: Self-Evaluation

Blue Thing #1: TNNW Surveys, Analyses and Findings/ Market Research.

Why? Because people are absolutely obsessed with what other people are thinking.

Why? Because feedback helps us to refine our strategies and change our trajectories.

Why? Because The National Networker Companies want you and your business to know your client audience and to constantly monitor changes in their attitudes, buying habits and needs.

(cue drumroll.......)

Take TNNW SURVEY #6
(Polls open 3/9, and close on 4/15)

Click toTake Survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/TNNWsurvey6

TNNW Survey #6: Take Your Own Personal "Human Asset Value" Inventory.

You bring your automobile in for an inspection to determine if it needs repairs. You check your investment portfolio to see how well your assets are performing. You review your bank statement to be certain that you can cover your bills. You appraise your property. You prepare balance sheets for your businesses. Comment: It might be a good idea to take a Personal Asset Value Inventory -- a self-appraisal -- from time to time. Start today. Invest a bit of time in taking an honest look at yourself...strong points, weak points, all points. What you reveal to yourself in this exercise might help you to make some refinements, and to better plan for a happier, more fulfilling and prosperous future.

We have not assigned "weights" or "priorities" to any factors, and there is no grading. Once the results are in, we will conduct another survey to assign weights to the various factors, so that you will have a means of rating yourself in comparison to others. But for the moment, your answers to the survey will just provide you with some food for thought...and thinking is good exercise; the more you use your mind, the stronger it becomes.

You'll be glad that you made this self-investment. And we at THE NATIONAL NETWORKER COMPANIES thank you for your participation. Now let's get on with the collaborative process of helping each other to be more successful.

It is self-evaluation time. We must do this before we can evaluate others effectively.

Please be advised that the survey contains 45 questions...so be prepared to dedicate some time to thinking about each question, and answer honestly -- never try to fool yourself.

Relax, focus and enjoy the adventure of self-discovery.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Reducing STRESS!

[Note: This article was written by Douglas Castle and was originally published in LINKS 4 LIFE, a public service resource which can be found at http://LifeLinksIEP.blogspot.com. Please make the LINKS 4 LIFE site a favorite.]

 REDUCING STRESS!
Dear Friends:

An article recently appeared in The Personal Liberty Digest (always an unlikely and controversial source) about the causes and prevention of negative stress in our lives. The article, written by Dr. Mark Wiley, follows. While the opinions expressed in the article are his own, and while you should seek professional help if your health is being significantly impacted by continued stress, the information presented might provide you with more insight into the causes and signs of unhealthy stress, and some of the possible ways in which you can reduce its disruption of your life. Remember -- Stress Can Kill

Your physical and emotional health are important. Don't neglect either of them. Your life matters.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

How Stress is Killing Us… And 10 Things You Can Do About It

February 23, 2010 by Dr. Mark Wiley
How Stress is Killing Us… And 10 Things You Can Do About It
Stress is one of the leading causes of illness in the United States. Indeed, nearly 66 percent of all signs and symptoms presented in doctors’ offices in the U.S. are stress induced.
The effects of stress include nail biting, anxiety, a racing mind, obsessive thoughts, compulsive behavior, unending worry, muscle tension and spasm, poor appetite or too great an appetite, digestive disorders, constipation, insomnia, poor blood flow, belabored breathing, neck pain, shoulder tension and the possible onset or continuation of bad habits such as dependence on alcohol, drugs, painkillers, food and caffeine.
Any one of these things by itself can trigger any number of different types of illnesses. But when these forces of antagonism are combined (as they generally are when triggered by stress), the health problems often become chronic and insufferable.
The Psychology of Stress
Stress is an interesting phenomenon. It means different things to different people. What we each individually consider to be stressful is largely a matter of our perception. Indeed, our perceptions are our realities and so what we think is posing a threat is actually doing so by virtue of our established belief system. Moreover, there are many kinds of stressors—physical (the response to being frightened), emotional (loss of a loved one), psychological (obsessive thoughts), spiritual (loss of faith) and psychosomatic (the need for attention).
Physiologically, stress is responsible for initiating the fight or flight response in the face of perceived danger. This means that when we are confronted with a danger, our body automatically prepares us to deal with the coming stressful situation by focusing our attention, pumping more blood into our muscles and sending adrenaline through our system to ready it for action. It is precisely this response that helps protect the body and return it again to homeostasis. However, too much stress, or stress left unresolved for too long a time, can lead to biological damage.
You see, at the onset of perceived danger the body is quickly jolted into fight or flight mode, which means stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are pumped into the bloodstream. However, at the conclusion of the danger episode, the body does not as automatically calm down and return to homeostasis. In fact, it takes a great deal of time for the body to return to so-called normal conditions. But often this cannot happen because another stressor may present itself (e.g., sitting in traffic, standing in line at the bank, missing a deadline) and this will send our body into “code red” mode all over again.
The effects of such prolonged or recurring stress is that it keeps the autonomic nervous system from balancing, which can lead to problems with the gastrointestinal tract, the digestive system, the respiratory system and the neuronendocrine system. Stress can also lead to depression, anxiety, muscle tension and insomnia. All of these are known triggers of various mental and physical (mind/body) illnesses and diseases.
A Stressful Example
The vicious cause and effect cycle of stress is readily seen in our workforce, wherein productivity and the meeting of deadlines and bottom-line expectations lead us down a harrowing headache path. Consider the average day in the life of a corporate worker: Wakes up early, skips breakfast and rushes to the office; begins harboring stress and anxiety while watching the clock sitting in traffic; sits all day at the computer and talking on the phone; takes breaks not to stretch and take deep breaths of fresh air, but to artificially stimulate the body to work harder through taking a cigarette and coffee break. After that it’s back to work pushing productivity in an attempt to meet expectations wherein stress and tensions rise and take hold of the body; after work, to relax—office co-workers are joined for happy hour—wherein the body is nourished with more caffeine, cigarettes and now alcohol. Round and round, day after day, until the body rebels and “tells” you something is very wrong by way of an ulcer, gastrointestinal disorder or chronic pain in some manifestation.
Stress is killing us!
Ten Stress Busters
The idea behind living a stress-free life is to remove the things in your life that are causing you to be stressed. Of course this is easier said than done, but it is truly the only way to not have stress. Here are 10 simple things you can do on a daily basis to reduce the symptoms of stress.
  • Walk outside for at least 20 continuous minutes every day.
  • Take the stairs whenever possible.
  • Take 10 deep belly breaths every hour.
  • Drink plenty of pure water—at least 10 glasses a day.
  • Avoid sugar and caffeine in all forms.
  • Regulate sleep and wake cycles to a consistent daily routine.
  • Prioritize your life, work, family and personal time and activities.
  • Do six shoulder shrugs whenever you are tense.
  • Realize that when people criticize and judge they are labeling an “image” of you and not you personally.
  • Realize that you are worth so much more than the sum of your titles, money and belongings.
A good stress-relief program should be sought and followed. Good programs generally include various forms of meditation, visualization, qigong, yoga, acupressure and bio-feedback. Not all programs contain everything, but engaging in any or some of these will go a long way to reclaiming years for your life.

Self-Growth: The Reality.

Self-Growth: The Reality.

The Most Efficient Path to Self-Growth, by Douglas Castle, Vice-Chairman of The National Networker Companies.

*Commentary regarding a sales letter (not reproduced here) from David Riklan of SelfGrowth.com: "How 97.5 % of all Self Improvement Companies Grow their Businesses"

David Riklan publishes and produces the selfgrowth.com website and its ancillary businesses. He accepts articles written by many writers about various aspects of "self-growth." Some of these articles are very worthwhile reading, and an intelligent person can occasionally acquire a gold nugget of an idea by reading the material produced by his authors. His business grows itself by his authors' contributions of article content and fees. I admire his business model - it is a good one. But there are some serious negatives...

David Riklan is a pay-to-play proclaimer of "expert" status, and a purveyor of "experts" in the self-improvement field. He (through selfgrowth.com) hasn't achieved any great credibility (in my uniquely myopic and snobbish view) as yet and doesn't develop traction for his readers. He actually tried to get me to enlist (i.e. "pay") as an "expert," and eventually wanted to discuss my going to work for him. I declined, saying that I was intellectually incapable of holding my own in a room filled with so many other "experts." I humbly confessed that I, myself, needed a great deal of self-improvement before I could counsel others in all good conscience.

Almost every person with whom I come into contact (I usually wear gloves) is a "self-growth expert" or a "self-growth coach." I always ask myself (silently, of course, so as not to create a stir) several questions before I entertain engaging a coach or advisor:

1). Does he or she "walk the walk?" [is he or she the avatar of a self-improved creature?]
2). Would I want to emulate this person? Is her or she someone I admire?
3). Has he or she successfully coached others and generated appreciable results?
4). Can we work comfortably together?
5). Would he or she be audacious enough to refuse me as a client if I were perfectly willing to pay, but obviously demonstrated serious deficiences or limitations (in terms of ability or attitude)?

I have found that many people actually need more of a strategic path and plan than they do generic "self-improvement" tips. That is why I've chosen to be involved in strategic planning and organizational engineering instead of stand alone self-growth.

On the path to achieving a business or professional goal, an individual doubtless encounters numerous real-time, real-world difficulties which force him or her to make adaptations which are, by definition, "self-growth."

The best path to self-growth is through field testing and experience.

In brief (I frequently write while in my underwear), don't talk to me about camping --- take me on a rugged camping trip. Experience is the most potent teacher of all, and the multisensorial memories created through experience are much more readily memorable, accessible and credible than those learned in a casual or classroom environment.

We learn most effectively by observing, and then by doing

Faithfully,

DouglasCastle
