HUMANITAS MAXIMUS ARTICLES

You should read the fine print which follows first...

*Note to my Readers About Viewing Posts: This blog is formatted in such a manner as to cut off certain of the larger graphics that appear in the postings -- especially when those postings have been excerpted from wider-screen or higher-resolution media. Please be patient with me while I work within Google's somewhat stifling Blogger framework. If some graphics are cut off, you might just left-click on them to see if you can get an original source screen with the full graphic shown -- regrettably, this only works some of the time. In the event that any of the wording is cut off, you might change your screen magnification down from 100% to 75%. But don't worry -- the copy very seldom gets cut off. In some cases, if the article has been re-posted from another source (and you sadly can almost never tell you might try clicking on the article title, to get redirected to the original source posting, which will generally be full-sized and easy to read. No matter what...Please don't run out to the local drugstore in the rain and buy some of those overpriced non-prescription "reading glasses" that will make you look like either 1) a Senator in a subcommittee proceeding, or like 2) a substitute teacher from the early 1060's.

And now, intrepid explorers...TO INFINITY! AND BEYOND!

The "Greater Fool Theory" Occasionally Fails// Bigger Is Not Always Better// Losing A Game Of Monetary Musical Chairs

Dear Readers:

I realize that it is mean-spirited to say this, but it looks like an ambitious, costly and elitist real estate project is going to fail because:

1. There seems to be an acute shortage of "stupid money" -- people are spending money to survive...and those who have significant resources are starting to believe that some of these ego-motivated luxury consumption items may either decline in value (no "greater fool") would have the giant pile of money needed to facilitate any resale of these "Tut Tombs.") or just be a deadly liquidity trap;

2. People, in general (even many of the ones who used to believe that they could pay off God to suspend the Laws of Physics if He would only accept a check), are becoming familiar with Sir Isaac Newton's notion of "what goes up, must come down." They are seeing Newtonian Economics and they are frightened at what they are repeatedly witnessing.

3. It's tough to get any of the "too big to fail" financial institutions to extend even the wealthiest, best-established familes credit for "super-jumbo" mortgages, home improvement loans, or even money to finance the occasional teak or zebrawood end table with diamond inlays.

...I also suspect that the "incident" at the World Trade Center in New York City ("9-11") has created an aversion, on the part of many people (whether or not they participated in the plotting, financing or execution of one of the most hideous and notorious terrorist attacks ever perpetrated on U.S. soil), to "living too high." This must be what you Humans refer to as "irony."

Oh well....that's it for now. But wait...

By the way, can you imagine how many profitable, productive, job-creating, technology-advancing, industrious, value-added emerging enterprises in the U.S. might have been financed with the proceeds used to erect this giant phallic symbol? Gee...working at TNNWC Group, LLC, I can think of many ways in which our emerging enterprise Membership base could have used those funds to produce a genuine, sustainable private-sector stimulus.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Your Friends? -- Who And Where Are They?

Your Friends? -- Who And Where Are They?

Dear Readers:

In a conversation with Rhonda Sher, we somehow got onto the topic of friends, and of friendship.

In these days of social networking platforms, rapid-messaging and  contact "list-building," we use the term "friend" either too loosely, or too optimistically. It seems that we can have as many "friends" as we want, as long as we 1) never ask anything (i.e., help) of them, and 2) we have something to offer them (i.e., money, valuable connections, technical or specialized knowledge). Pity.

As a little boy, I thought that what we asked for, and what we had to offer in return from and for our friends was simply friendship. It was a sympathetic ear, comfort, advice, time together, helping eachother, protecting and defending eachother -- all in the name of  friendship.

How many of your contacts are friends? Take an inventory.

When the wheels fall off of your life, when the storm clouds rise over your head, when you are misjudged, slandered, trivialized, unpopular, threatened.....just how many of them would stand by you? How many would see you through? Ask the same of yourself, as a friend -- given the same set of circumstances with one of your contacts, would you be a confidant, a protector, a defender.....a friend???

I am afraid that the notion of pure friendship, and all of the interpersonal goodness that it offers, is almost extinct. Despite the emails, networking communities, tweeting, buzzing, and local business roundtable meetings, we are growing increasingly insular; isolated; guarded.

What I offered to Rhonda (and she has offered me much in return) was my definition of friendship derived from very painful personal experience. The definition requires a test in adverse circumstances...

"Your friends are those people who come running in when everyone else is running out."

Don't let the notion and practice of friendship die. Ultimately, all things being considered, friendship is the greatest gift one person can give to another, and the greatest honor that one person can bestow upon another.

May you be blessed with friendship. May you be a true friend, and may you be enjoy the security, freedom and unbridled happiness of true friendship. That is my wish for everyone.

True friendship brings out the divine element which exists within each of us. It is interpersonal harmony.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Re-Humanization - A Renewed Commitment to Each Other - The Hollies..."He Ain't Heavy - He's My Brother"

Consider this post to be a slight change of pace. Sometimes a diversion is necessary. --DC

When I was a boy, this song would bring tears to my eyes. I did not fully comprehend the profound implications of the simple lyrics -- I didn't fully appreciate the metaphor. Yet I knew I was listening to a parayer, a lesson, a declaration of unconditional love, and I was moved to the core.

I'll bet this song by the Hollies ("He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother") opened a great many hearts, made people aware of the spiritual ties that bind us, and initiated a great number of charitable acts of kindness. The message is profound. It means that we are all part of a Human Family, and that we cannot harden ourselves against the cries of the suffering, abandon those who need us, or divorce ourselves from the essence of our Humanity.

This song, over the years, has come to define the greatest qualities of Humanity...if fact, perhaps the very definition of Humanity...to me. The further we move from its spirit, the harder and colder life becomes. The more selfish and unfulfilled we become. The more prone we are to being abusers and tolerators or abuse.

We need to Re-Humanize. Please take some quiet time to listen to this song and permit it to commandeer your weary conscience and take you to a world that could be, if we chose to make it so.

Songs, poetry, stories -- the are the highest part of our Humanity speaking through us, metaphorically, to keep our Humanity alive, and to re-awaken it when it has curled up into a frightened ball in a dark corner of our soul.

Listen and feel. Encourage others to do the same. Let us Re-Humanize.

What Percentage Of Your Time Do You Spend Thinking About Money? - TNNWC MINI-SURVEY #9

Cousin Ruprecht always says: "I like surveys. They're fun." Sadly, he is still institutionalized, despite a notable improvement in his table manners and exceptionally high marks regarding his personal sanitation habits. (sigh). But I digress...

TNNWC MINI-SURVEY #9 OPENS!

$$$...?

TNNWC MINI-SURVEY #9: Thinking About Money...
The survey question is a very simple one but has implications which dramatically affect every single one of us, and the quality of our lives:
Q: WHAT PERCENTAGE OF YOUR WAKING TIME (ON THE AVERAGE) DO YOU SPEND THINKING ABOUT/ WORRYING ABOUT COVERING YOUR LIVING EXPENSES AND PAYING BILLS?

Give it some serious thought before you select one answer from the choices below. Include any of those times when you may be consumed with worries about college tuition, refinancing your home mortgage, outliving your retirement funds, and the like -- in other words, any time that you are distracted by thoughts of your financial obligations.

The polls for this survey will close at midnight, Eastern Time, on November 20th, 2010.

To access the survey, click on:

The results will be posted EVERYWHERE!
