HUMANITAS MAXIMUS ARTICLES

You should read the fine print which follows first...

*Note to my Readers About Viewing Posts: This blog is formatted in such a manner as to cut off certain of the larger graphics that appear in the postings -- especially when those postings have been excerpted from wider-screen or higher-resolution media. Please be patient with me while I work within Google's somewhat stifling Blogger framework. If some graphics are cut off, you might just left-click on them to see if you can get an original source screen with the full graphic shown -- regrettably, this only works some of the time. In the event that any of the wording is cut off, you might change your screen magnification down from 100% to 75%. But don't worry -- the copy very seldom gets cut off. In some cases, if the article has been re-posted from another source (and you sadly can almost never tell you might try clicking on the article title, to get redirected to the original source posting, which will generally be full-sized and easy to read. No matter what...Please don't run out to the local drugstore in the rain and buy some of those overpriced non-prescription "reading glasses" that will make you look like either 1) a Senator in a subcommittee proceeding, or like 2) a substitute teacher from the early 1060's.

And now, intrepid explorers...TO INFINITY! AND BEYOND!

A "BOXED SET" COLLECTION OF UPDATED POSTS

Dear Fellow Humanoids (and other distant family members having taken other paths):

What follows, in a miserable, run-on format, is some wonderful content from other blogs with which I am actively involved. I believe that you will enjoy what you are about to read. Consider this one colossal, albeit overdue update. This blog (at least according to its description in a number of places) is supposed to be a hub for numerous of my other blogs. WELL...THE HUB IS HERE.

In order to spare you the chore of clicking, searching and cyberspace "hide and seek" on numerous sites, I am not merely posting links to these articles. No -- my efforts at pleasing you know no bounds! I am reprinting the entire articles, right here with my own permission, and paying myself generously for this privilege. Lamentably, some scrolling will be required on your part. It's a great exercise for those of you who don't get out that frequently.

Thank you, as always, for reading me.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

YOUR TIME - AND EVERYTHING THAT TRULY MATTERS
by Douglas Castle (http://aboutdouglascastle.blogspot.com/)

WHAT IS YOUR TIME WORTH? And what are YOU worth?

You invest your time, either for instant gratification or compensation, or to build wealth and security for the future. Your time, as I have said repeatedly, is limited, and uncertain. If you are a contributor of great value, choose investments which will reward you...being enslaved to make a meager living can keep you from choosing better opportunities to be justly and deservedly compensated.

The irony here, is that sometimes the illusion of financial security is merely concealing an ongoing loss of opportunity, and for earning what you are truly worth.

Yes, security can indeed be enslavement, just as easily as insecurity can be the gateway to liberation.

Be vigilant. Pay attention to both sides of your psyche -- the intuitive side, and the conscious, intellectual side. Get in touch with a) who you are; b) what you are doing; c) why you are doing what you are doing (i.e., the "payoff"); and d) if there is something you should be doing instead of what you are doing.

Warning: Introspection and self-awareness can be frightening. You will likely find that you have rationalized and compromised yourself, your time and your life (everything that matters) in exchange for far less than you had ever imagined. You may have constructed a cage for yourself out of your own fears --- and that cage is separating you from truly fulfilling your needs and desires.

SELF-IMPOSED PUNISHMENT IS NOT THE SAME AS PRACTICAL DISCIPLINE. Discipline is a skill, whereby you employ focus in order to attain a visualized objective. Self-imposed punishment is merely the bastard offspring of fear, insecurity and self-hatred...it is dangerously masochistic. It ensnares us in an ever-tightening net.

I am still working on this, as I am working on myself. I am writing about it, but I have not personally mastered it -- my greatest comfort is in knowing that I am being honest with myself about myself. I know (both sides of my psyche are in agreement regarding this) that I am now headed in the right direction.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

COMPLICATED WAYS OF EXPRESSING SIMPLE THINGS

Dear Friends:

When I was a junior accountant at a CPA firm in New York City, I asked the senior accountant who was in charge of the audit that we were working on, "Ray (which was not his real name which was, and which may still actually be Saul), would you like to take our dinner break at seven o' clock or at eight?"

His response was "It's really six of one, or half a dozen of the other."

I immediately viewed him as an aphorism-toting, unimaginative imbecile.

Six months later, Ray (who was really Saul) was promoted to Junior Partner at the firm while I was fired for insubordination.

The moral of this story?

I haven't any idea.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

---------------
Dear Braintenance Buffs:

I had a high school teacher who was obsessed with "chain calculations" and "comparison calculations". These are simple but time- consuming arithmetic operations which are undertaken in order to convert or express one quantity in terms of another, or in order to support (or refute) an idea or argument. A simple one might be (just for example), "How many inches are in a mile?" This type of computation does have the benefit of giving us a sense of perspective.

With the help of some Search engines and a calculator, you may wish to answer the following questions:

1. How many Angstrom Units are there in one inch?

2. If Bill Gates were to divide his current net worth amongst the entire population of the United States, how much additional wealth would each of us have?

3. At today's prices, how many ounces of gold would it take to pay for a home valued at $240,000.00?

Soon!

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle
