Forgive this lengthy post. Please grant me the kindness of reading the exchange of emails from the bottom on up. It tells a wonderful story, and it contains a significant Life Lesson.
I have learned a bit about turning base metals into gold. And, as glorious as it seems, it always humbles me.

Dear Tom:
Thank you so much for the video clip. Ironically, I had seen the very same one just a week or two ago -- it had been sent by someone to me in...a solicitation (of all things!). I had, some time ago, learned to hesitate before I discard what seems "inappropriate."
The moral is that I have found tremendous treasure lying amidst the seeming trash of irrelevancy, and further, that I have found my finest, dearest friends under the most unlikely circumstances. There are still some diamonds in the darkest recesses of the mines.
What an excellent theme for a blog post!
Tragically, Tom, I am now forced to consider you a friend. I consider myself blessed.
Faithfully (or perhaps fatefully), and in friendship,
Douglas

Tom Schulte wrote: -------------------- Hi Douglas, Linked 2 Leadership Courtesy Message.
I apologize for the abruptness of this message, but as a courtesy to our members, we are trying to reserve the Linked 2 Leadership Discussion board on LinkedIn to discussions that engage members in dialog on Leadership Development, Organizational Health, and Personal & Professional Growth. I know that it may be difficult, but please refrain from postings that do not fit that specific profile because we want the Linked 2 Leadership Discussions arena to benefit the readers in an honest and safe manner that keeps them safe from solicitations to join other entities, “Join my Network!”, advertise a product/service, or redirect their attention for commercial purposes. I can certainly understand how you would like the L2L member audience to see what you are advertising because of their high caliber, but this is not the correct forum to seek their interest. We need your help to keep this a safe and reliable place to learn, grow, and build other leaders. If you have other discussions that you would like to post that add value to our members with appropriate content, then we would love to hear from you! Thank you so much for any help you can provide us! Tom Schulte

[Some information about S.A.D.] A Friendly Public Service Announcement. NETWORKING IS A CONSTANT ACTIVITY -- DON'T LET SEASONAL DEPRESSION SLOW YOU DOWN. FIGHT BACK! http://LifeLinksIEP.blogspot.com . Dear Friends: Many of us suffer from SAD, or Seasonal Affect Disorder. It is a paralytic, disphoric form of depression that ravages us like an energy vampire during the winter months, or during prolonged periods of poor weather where sunlight is scant. Lola Kern, Senior Internal Energy Plus Consultant, has written a superb post on the LIFE LINKS blog (at http://LifeLinksIEP.blogspot.com ) that discusses her first-hand experience with SAD, and what she has done to beat it. This article concerns your emotional health. If you do well through the winter, then perhaps you should forward this post on to someone whom you know suffers with the "winter blues." You might wish to make the LIFE LINKS site a favorite. Sharing information with colleagues is good, sound networking. It is a superb way to communicate on an interpersonal level without pressure or a glaring ulterior motive. I highly recommend this article.
